1. How did you get started in the industry? How can someone who is interested in your work get started?

I attended school of aesthetics and after completion I began a career working with accomplished plastic surgeons and dermatologist in clinical skincare. I also work as a skin consultant and merchandiser coordinator for major department stores and specialty stores who carried cosmoceuticals products in skincare. In addition to broadening my love for staying fit and healthy I received my certification in personal training and nutrition.

I would suggest that anyone interested in this career should first have a passion for skincare or fitness and health. Secondly they should look to attend a reputable school for aesthetics or receive certification for fitness or nutrition.

2. What’s the future of your industry or job?

According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics the demand for skincare services is still growing continually, primarily due to the popularity of skin treatments for relaxation and medical well-being.

Overall, the national trends for fitness and wellness market will continue to show growth at a rapid rate through the millennium.

3. What do you look for when you hire an intern or entry-level candidate?

I look for a person who is a self-starter and has a drive and commitment to over-exceeding and really learning the business from the ground up.

4. What is one thing an intern can do to make a favorable impression?

To showcase leadership and a willingness to learn, they should also be ready to jump in and not be afraid to ask questions.

5. Can you share a positive intern story and an intern horror story? No names needed…

For the most part, I have been blessed with interns who are responsible, creative and passionate about jumping aboard and emerging themselves in the company.
