1. What do you look for when you hire an intern or entry-level candidate?

Our intern program strives to attract and retain top caliber students (undergraduate & graduate) who have demonstrated excellence in their studies, are socially conscious, and have shown a commitment to giving back to others. They are diverse in their fields of academic interest and they often have held other internships or possess existing work experience. We love to bring in gifted athletes and artists, students who have studies abroad, and those who have committed to campus clubs and organizations. Top candidates are intellectually curious – they love solving puzzles and seek out challenges; they have strong communication skills; and embrace opportunities to collaborate and share ideas.

2. What is one thing an intern can do to make a favorable impression?

The best interns come to us with an open mind, an aptitude for listening, and a willingness to do whatever needs to get done. They embrace each responsibility as a learning experience and they leverage the mentorship and career guidance they are offered across the organization. Our positions are unique in that the interns get to do real work, so our interns benefit from owning projects and handling key deliverables. A great intern will learn how to prioritize, stay organized, and keep all parties updated frequently.

3. Can you share a positive intern story?

We have fortunately been able to welcome a number of our interns into the ClearVision family over the past few years. Interestingly, not all of the students were given offers for the area in which they interned; instead the best ones took the time to nurture relationships across the business, seek out guidance on career development, and dig in whenever a special project was offered. Often we call our interns the elves who help us to get work done across the departments. They impressed enough people with their positive attitude and incredible intellect that we simply couldn’t let them leave. They are now all-star additions to our team.

4. Now, can you share an intern horror story? No names needed…

Some less favorable outcomes typically resulted from students who either didn’t demonstrate that they were reliable or that they had a willingness to help in any way. In our organization, jobs are broad, and your impact is limitless.
