Eric Davich is the Chief Content Officer and Co-Founder of Songza Media Inc. Prior to Songza, Eric and his partners ran the dynamically-priced download store, Amie Street (acquired by Amazon). Eric earned a BA, in Music with Honors from Bowdoin College in 2006 and was the recipient of the Sue Winchell Burnett Music Prize. When he’s not doing something involving music, Eric enjoys running barefoot, snowboarding, and going on culinary adventures.
1. How did you get started in the industry? How can someone who is interested in your work get started?
Music has always been my favorite thing. I’ve been a musician since I was 10 years old, I majored in music in college, and I did a few internships at prominent record labels, industry publications, and recording studios while I was in college. I knew I wanted to make music or work in music when I graduated from college and the only area where I noticed growth was in digital music, so I sought out to find some young startups doing cool, interesting things with digital music and was introduced to my, now partners Elias, Peter, and Elliott who were running a digital download store at the time called Amie Street, which we sold to Amazon in 2010. We’ve been running Songza exclusively ever since.
2. What’s the future of your industry or job?
Songza is changing the way that people listen to music by eliminating the mental math involved in choosing the right music at the right time. My role is to help decide what music we present to people as well working with artists, brands, celebrities, and music experts to leverage the Songza platform to engage with fans/customers and raise awareness for their brand.
3. What do you look for when you hire an intern or entry-level candidate?
The ideal candidate for any position at Songza is someone who, first and foremost, loves music. Aside from that, good candidates are pay attention to detail, work well with others, enjoy challenging assignments, and think outside of the box.
4. What is one thing an intern can do to make a favorable impression?
Make a great playlist that our users will love!

Some interns are so good at making playlists that when they finish their internship, we ask them to continue contributing playlists as freelancers.
We once had an intern who stopped showing up without giving us any notice.
