Senior Year: At the gateway of opportunity

It is all surreal knowing that my junior year of undergrad will be ending in the matter of a week. I feel like just yesterday I was moving in and going to my first ever floor meeting. As I stand on the middle ground between my junior and senior year, I am not as upset as many of my classmates. In fact, I am looking forward to senior year for the experiences I have yet to have and the opportunities that will be coming my way. By the time I graduate, I will have tons of experience for my journalist tool belt. So why is senior year so important to me?

#1: Last call for internship experience!

If I so choose, I have the opportunity to get one more internship and gain experience in the world of journalism. If I perform well, then it might lead into a job — which I so conveniently will need come May 2012. It is never a bad time for an internship, because in all honesty it will give you more experience than in the classroom.

#2: Job Search!

I am bound and determined to have a job by the time spring break rolls around so that during spring break I can find a place to live.

This is my favorite part! I am looking forward to job searching like you wouldn’t believe! I am bound and determined to have a job by the time spring break rolls around so that during spring break I can find a place to live. I currently have an Excel spreadsheet that has about 20+ jobs, and there are still more to be added! Like I said, I am determined to have a job by the time I graduate.

#3: I get to see where my experience takes me.

I have been super involved in student life on my campus, and I have gained so many leadership qualities that I think will help me get a good job. Through job searching I will get the chance to see where my leadership skills and skills in the journalism field will take me (I sure hope they take me far!) For everyone out there who still has a couple years to go, I suggest that you become involved in leadership experiences on your campus to make you a better candidate upon graduation!

I’m sure that I could go on and on and on. What I am really excited about is going out with a bang! I am ready for the next chapter of my life, and I believe that senior year will be the gateway to the next chapter. I mean, who shouldn’t be excited about the possibilities of their future?
