These days, college and high school students need every bit of help to get a leg up in this world.
Think about how many of your friends or relatives are looking for work. I go on my Facebook every day and see at least two people’s status’ are about needing a job. This is why internships are so critical, because they can act as both a head start and sometimes, a source of income.
And there are internships out there and available. In the last year, I’ve had not one, but two internships. It’s just a matter of knowing where to find them.
Sometimes, getting an internship is about who you know. Sometimes, just getting interviews is a big deal. Companies like NBC Universal and Teen Vogue offer internships every year, but to a very limited amount of people.
But you can find internships in the most unlikely of places, as well.
I got my first internship at a locally owned and operated skin and hair care company. They’d been offering internships for years. And where did I find this job? On craigslist.com of all places. My current internship was also found on craigslist.
If you don’t know where to look, try starting at your campus job or career center. They are usually the people who would know about any internships available in your area.
If you already know your major, your department might know of internships specific to your field. If you’ve already declared your major in that field,it’s more than likely you will find the internships interesting.
Of course, websites like internships.com are always a great way to get going, even if you’re just starting out. Internships are out there, they’re just waiting for you to discover them.
