Tracey’s Angle: Networking at Holiday Parties

December 15, 2010

Hey all,

It’s that time of the year again…holiday season! Whether you’ll be stuffing Christmas stockings, lighting the menorah, or just snuggling up by the fire, sooner or later you’re bound to end up at a holiday party. Whether you’re going for the cookies, music, opportunity to dress up, you can also work on your professional goals at the same time. Here are a few tips for mixing business and pleasure at holiday parties this year.

Mix & Mingle: Don’t be a wallflower! Get up, grab some eggnog and mingle with the party people. Who knows, you may meet someone who works with a company that you’ve been dying to intern for or that you’ve never heard of and could be a great opportunity. Mix and mingle to get your name out there and talk to interesting people.

Be positive: Aim to be the life of the party! Ask lots of good questions, have a few good stories to tell, and smile! People are more open to interact and share moments with positive people. This is your time to show them your personality…and be authentic!

It’s not all business: Just because you’re trying to network doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun. Remember, your semester is over, the holidays are here, and you’re at a party! Having fun is the best way to network and meet people.

Happy holidays!
