It's Me!

Hello all!

It probably seems like celebrities were born famous. WRONG! Most celebrities are just like you and me—jocks, nerds, school athletes, class clowns, and even interns. That’s right…interns! It takes loads of work to climb to the top of the entertainment ladder, just ask leading celebs like Oprah, Conan O’Brien, Tom Hanks, and Steven Spielberg.

I was ecstatic to know that by participating in an internship, I can end up filling shoes as big as those that Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg walk in. Oprah was hired as an intern at the Nashville CBS affiliate, and in 1973, they decided that she was ready to be a news anchor. Can you imagine going from intern,to news anchor,to the host of the highest-rated talk show in television history, to an entrepreneur that has a net worth of over 2.3 billion dollars?! Oprah is brilliant, and knowing it all started with drive, passion, and an internship gives me a sense of hope.

Internships can be vital components to your success. So if you didn’t believe it before, then believe it now. I’ve noticed that employers tend to look for candidates with the most relevant job experience. Having an internship helps to provide you with insight into some of the skills that a potential employer may want you to have. Another key reason why internships are important is because they help you expand your professional network. Think about it, one day you may need someone from your new network of professional colleagues to write a reference. All in all, internships help you get established, and are a great way to get your foot in the door at a company.

So get out there, discover, prepare, and apply to the internships that are perfect for you!

Hope this inspires all the interns out there. Next week I’ll share my thoughts about living up to your employer’s expectations.

Don’t miss out on these juicy topics :]

Adios,

Tracey L.
