Hey all! The balancing act of attending classes, doing homework, working, and participating at club meetings is one that will never be easy. Although the summer is the most popular season for doing an internship, I’ve actually found that a few of my most rewarding internship opportunities happened during the school year. The first internship I did during a school year was in my second semester freshman year. Was it difficult to find the position? Relatively. Was I crazy for interning my freshman year? Maybe. Was it worth the time and effort? Most definitely. Upon completion of that internship, I had more field experience than a majority of my peers. When I was considering taking that first internship, time management was my main worry.  I decided, however, that I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity, so throughout that semester I stayed as organized as possible by keeping a [...]

Hey all,  Freshman year is supposed to be full of discovery, excitement, and exposure. Meeting new people, soaking in all of the lectures that you can, and living life without as much parental control–so exciting! But what about job experience? Sure, you may take on a part-time campus job, but think of how much more productive you could be if you spent the same amount of hours you spend at that part-time job doing an internship. How great would it look to have an internship already on your resume?  My current internship, here at internships.com, is my third. I had my first internship during my freshman year. Now I know you’re probably thinking…  “Why would I want an internship so early on in college?'  “Isn’t an internship a lot of work and responsibility to handle as a freshman?'  “Most employers want someone who is really experienced…I am definitely [...]

Hey all,  Summer is at it’s peak, and whether you’re just getting settled into your summer internship, or you’re spending your days at the beach and your nights hanging out with friends, it’s about time to start your search for a fall internship. Seriously, I know you don’t even want to think about fall semester, but don’t let your summer fun sidetrack your focus.  Take me for example. Here I am, sitting at my desk at my summer internship, and worrying about what I am going to do during the fall. Aside from the clubs I’m in, and attending my classes, what will I do in order to build my resume? A basic campus job is always an option, but an internship sounds far more appealing.  Below are a few things I’ll do when I start my search for my next internship:   1.      Ask around. Asking my family, friends, classmates, and [...]

Hello all! It probably seems like celebrities were born famous. WRONG! Most celebrities are just like you and me—jocks, nerds, school athletes, class clowns, and even interns. That’s right…interns! It takes loads of work to climb to the top of the entertainment ladder, just ask leading celebs like Oprah, Conan O’Brien, Tom Hanks, and Steven Spielberg. I was ecstatic to know that by participating in an internship, I can end up filling shoes as big as those that Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg walk in. Oprah was hired as an intern at the Nashville CBS affiliate, and in 1973, they decided that she was ready to be a news anchor. Can you imagine going from intern,to news anchor,to the host of the highest-rated talk show in television history, to an entrepreneur that has a net worth of over 2.3 billion dollars?! Oprah is brilliant, and knowing it all started with [...]
