Africa Fashion & Art Week LA (AFAWLA) is a unique and innovative event focused on raising global awareness to diverse talent, promoting and celebrating African cultures, and bridging the gap between US buyers and African designers and artists. Our objective is to enhance the African textile and art industry by providing a platform for established and emerging African creatives to showcase their talents to a broad audience. Africa Fashion and Art week LA will allow designers and artists to take advantage of global opportunities and gain international exposure while growing their businesses therefore, boosting the African economy. We define Africa in diasporic terms, which include designers, artists and affiliates with links to the African continent from all parts of the globe. AFAWLA is committed to exhibiting collections of excellence and we aim to provide potential buyers with a diverse array of pieces and looks. Africa Fashion and Art Week will be a multifaceted week-long event that will include runway shows, art exhibitions, industry networking mixers, pop up shops, and more. The event, scheduled for October 2014, will link international partners, business leaders, local buyers, agents, editors, celebrities, and industry insiders to the vibrant fashion and art that Africa has to offer.

Responsibilities

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals who would like to lend their time, talent, knowledge and energy to this fashion week event. Interns who partner with Africa Fashion & Art Week will be exposed to many facets of the fashion industry and will gain valuable behind the scenes experience. Interns will also get career experience with how events are managed, be apart of the action, and establish themselves within this dynamic and fast-paced industry.
As a Production Assistant Intern you will aid Africa Fashion & Art Week LA staff with the production process as a whole. You will be expected to demonstrate critical thinking initiatives, concepts, and reach set goals with superior follow through and delivery. You will also be involved in organizing and monitoring files on drives and required to meet deadlines and working closely with AFAWLA staff to solve problems that may arise during production planning.
*INTERNS WHO ARE AVAILABLE FOR 3 OR MORE MONTHS WILL BE STRONGLY CONSIDERED.

Requirements

Requirements:
• Fashion/Retail Experience OR STRONG INTEREST IN FASHION INDUSTRY (Fashion Major PREFERRED)
• Minimum of 3-4 Month Commitment Preferred but not REQUIRED
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects at once
• Highly motivated and ambitious
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
• Great people and relationship management skills
• Exceptional organizing skills
• Buyer & Sponsorship recruiting/promotional skills
