Have you ever wondered what it would be like to make a complete period costume? From the design, to the selection of fabrics and trim, to actually putting the whole outfit together? Or have you always wanted to improve your sewing skills, but just never knew how? Luckily for you, the Chicago Costume Warehouse has an internship position open for a candidate with the drive and passion to learn more about sewing, costume design, and costume creation.
The chosen applicant will work closely with the owner, head seamstress and costume creator of the Chicago Costume Company. This time of year is big for making costumes, so there will be an endless amount of projects that the applicant will be required to assist. Responsibilities will include basic sewing projects, providing a creative opinion, an ability to carry out directions, and many other tasks associated with the process of making costumes.
A basic understanding of historical periods is preferred, as well as students with a basic understanding of sewing. Also, the chosen applicant will demonstrate an ability to understand directions and carry them out precisely. Most importantly, however, will be the thirst for knowledge and the furthering and perfecting of one's own abilities. If you have the drive and passion to learn what goes into making theater-quality costumes, then this internship is right for you.
