DescriptionHaute Midwest Magazine (HM) is Iowa's diamond standard fashion blogging source. From showcase to runway and news to reviews, HM brings you the Midwest fashion experience. HM is looking for blog-stars to help establish the GS brand and promote HM as a mogul in the fashion entertainment and publishing industries.
ResponsibilitiesInterns will SUPPORT HM Staff in the following positions, completing duties as assigned.
Serves as Executive Assistant to the Editor in Chief. Commissions articles, manages editorial assistants, editors, writers / bloggers, photo editors, and other administrative staff. Oversees day to day operations and publication layouts. Ensures timely publication according to HM guidelines. Coordinates with Circulation Manager and Ad Sales Agents as needed to maintain consistent HM goals and vision.
Grows HM readership. Manages readership retention. Surveys readership. Communicates with Managing Editor about readership trends. Oversees print and digital distribution for all publication topic categories. Coordinates with Managing Editor as needed to maintain consistent HM goals and vision.
Ad Sales Agent
Sells media space to individuals and businesses related to topic categories. Coordinates with Circulation Manager and Managing Editor as needed to maintain consistent HM goals and vision.
Assists the Managing Editor in completing publication cycles for specific topic categories. Duties may also include writing and or proofreading. Provides support to the editorial team. Maintain communications with freelance contributors, donors, and advertisers. Archives articles, volumes, and images. Collects content submissions for review. Routes submissions accordingly.
Fashion Writer / Reporter (Editorial Team Member)
Coordinates with Editorial Assistant to write content for special features and staple features. Compiles and revises content from various sources including subject matter experts. Conducts interviews. Works with Photo Editor to apply appropriate images to original content. Reports on a variety of fashion-oriented topics.
Fashion Photo-Bloggers / Reporters (Editorial Team Members)
Attends local events. Conducts interviews. Works with photographers or takes pictures on location. Blogs / Reports on a variety of fashion-oriented topics.
Photo Editors / Researchers
Provides photography services for HM Photo-Bloggers / Reporters on location. Selects images and artwork to accompany articles in various topic categories. Coordinates with Fashion Writers, Photo-Bloggers and Reporters for image publication. Secures image licensing, model releases, etc.
RequirementsIntern applicants must live in one of the following U.S. States: Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, or Wisconsin.
Fashion Magazine Interns must possess the following:
- Current enrollment in an educational program
- Eligibility for learning credit to be awarded in exchange for performance of the internship;
- Hardware, software, and technical skills require to telecommute for work;
- Availability to participate in required fashion industry mentoring to earn learning credits;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Fashion blogging and or video blogging experience;
- Ability to work with an editorial team;
- Attention to detail;
- Ability to multi-task;
- Appreciation for diversity; and
- A strong sense of style.
