DescriptionThe Film Department at Austin Film Festival runs the film competition and programs all of the films that play during the Festival. This involves marketing the competition, screening the films, creating the film program, and working with and bringing in the filmmakers. In addition, the Film Department helps organize and market year-round events including advance screenings and the annual Audience Award Series. Film Department interns will contribute to all aspects of the department’s responsibilities, including marketing the film competition to increase entries, working with the Film Selection Committee to ensure films are being screened and evaluated properly, processing submissions and managing the submission database. These tasks will be coupled with a variety of different assignments including researching filmmakers, working and attending year-round events, helping with mail-outs, and watching films. Interns will be required to work a regular schedule within business hours (Monday to Friday 10 am to 6 pm), though we are flexible on the specific hours. A prospective intern should be comfortable with computers, especially Word and Excel, efficient, punctual, outgoing, and good with people.
RequirementsWe are looking for self-starters and problem-solvers who are interested in film and event planning and want to work with a nationally-renowned film festival at the ground level. You will be watching film, thinking about film and interacting with filmmakers. Also you will be doing data entry. And running errands. But it will all be in the name of film.
Must live in Austin area and willing to commit to a set schedule of 10-20 hours/week.
