Description

Supervisor: Assistant Controller

Overview: University Settlement, serving over 25,000 low-income individuals and families each year with innovative programming, and its affiliate agency, The Door, New York City’s premier youth development agency, providing comprehensive services to 11,000 young people each year, seeks a part-time Accounting Intern in the Finance Department.

The Accounting Intern will be responsible for assisting the Finance Department with a variety of tasks related to financial and accounting efforts for both University Settlement and The Door. This position will provide excellent, practical experience working in a large department with two of New York City’s leading nonprofit organizations.

Responsibilities


• Assist with filing and other general office tasks
• Assist with account payables and receivables
• Assist with gathering documents needed for audits
• Assist with preparing spreadsheets and financial analysis
• Maintain the inventory of warehouse files and assist in calling for files when needed
• Assist Accountants in obtaining accounts payable information for monthly vouchers
• Assist in handling the daily bank deposits as needed
• Complete special projects and other assignments requested by the supervisor or Finance Department

Requirements


• Must be a undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Finance or Accounting
• Excellent attention to detail, writing and time management skills
• Excellent arithmetic skills
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently, but as an effective member of a team
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
