Description

Elk Capital Partners is a search fund, similar to private equity, that has raised funds to find and acquire one, profitable business in the US with greater than $10 million in annual revenue. The concept of the search model is to buy one business and then assume the operations of the day-to-day business. Many lower-middle market businesses have owners who want to retire or move on to their next endeavor but do not have a succession plan in place and traditional private equity does not have industry veterans who are interested in running businesses of this size. For individuals interested in entering a finance role, such as investment banking or private equity, Elk Capital Partners would give the most valuable training experience available. In addition, individuals who join Elk Capital Partners would get access and one-on-one interaction and collaboration with the Managing Partner. Strong performers will be mentored and taught relevant skills necessary to obtain roles in investment banking and private equity, as well as access, introductions and recommendations to firms network made up of individuals at top investment banking and private equity firms in New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles such as Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Citi, Wind Point, CIVC, JH Whtiney & Co, Irving Place Capital and many others. You won’t just have something to put on your resume to catch the eye of employers and distinguish yourself from your peers but learn the skills necessary to accelerate your personal and professional growth. We have been in your shoes before and had people take us under the wing - we want to pay it forward!

Responsibilities

Individuals will primarily learn to source companies within an industry of interest, identify the owners of said companies and locate contact information for those business owners. In addition, individuals will coordinate the mass distribution of initial and follow up contact with business owners, brokers and intermediaries via email.

Based on performance and effort, individuals will learn to evaluate investment opportunities, develop industry investment theses, and dialogue with prospective sellers or their representatives.

Expectations:
• Individuals will be expected to come to the Elk Capital Partners office at 220 N. Green St, Chicago, IL 60607 4+ hours per day from 9am – 7pm 3-5 days a week for 12 weeks. Hours and days can be flexible.
• The internship is intended to be a training opportunity and is unpaid.
• Associate Interns will report directly to the Managing Partner
• Food, drinks and transportation may be periodically covered.

Requirements

Successful candidates will demonstrate some or all of these characteristics below however at the end of the day, we want passionate, driven individuals with an enthusiasm to succeed. Let us know if you are that person!

• Strong academic performance (College GPA of 3.3 or better. Do not need to have completed your bachelor's degree)
• Strong work ethic
• Resourceful
• Attention to detail
• Interest in role as financial professional
• Business or related major NOT required
• Proficient use of email and the internet
