Description

This position assists with regional emergency preparedness planning in East Central Florida, involving first responder training and exercises, hazard analysis, domestic security, and various other projects within the emergency preparedness field.

Potential Duties:
•Attending meetings and planning conferences as needed
•Assist in the review and updating of various plans in place for hazard specific planning
•Assist in the development of exercises and exercise-related documents
•Participate in exercises as exercise support
•Participate and assist in other emergency preparedness activities in the office and field
•Develop spreadsheets and databases
•Assist with data entry of hazard analysis site visit
•Minor administrative work such as filing, scanning, and copying in support of emergency preparedness activities

The intern will be expected to work up to 25 hours per week and should be a motivated, well-organized individual with good oral and writing skills, the ability to synthesize data, and present ideas and results. The ideal candidate must have working knowledge and experience with word processing, spreadsheet and database programs, be knowledgeable of state and federal statues relating to hazardous materials and emergency management. The ideal candidate must also have the ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with community and government agencies, staff and the general public.

The internship is open to degree-seeking students in public administration, emergency management, regional planning or a related field. The internship location is the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council in Alamonte Springs.
