DescriptionThis is work assisting a member of the Senate or House of Representatives with a variety of administrative and public relations matters requiring a thorough understanding of the policies, procedures, and operating practices of the Florida Legislature.
An employee in a position allocated to this class performs duties of moderate variety and complexity. Work involves the performance of a variety of non-routine tasks that require the application of different and unrelated processes and methods. Work is reviewed for meeting objectives.
ResponsibilitiesStep I- Fall Semester
Assists in managing a district office in all functions performed by district office.
Serves as a liaison for constituents. Responds to inquiries by documenting and seeking solutions to problems.
Attends various local functions and meetings with supervisor to gather information, or on behalf of the supervisor, as a representative of the staff.
Assists in coordinating events and meetings.
Prepares and distributes press releases and other public information data. Use social media to communicate with constituents.
Assists in maintenance of district office files including selection of newspaper articles and other source materials for files.
Formulates replies to correspondence in draft or final form depending on the complexity of the issue.
Advises supervisor of issues and projects in the district that require involvement in order to better serve the district.
Step II-Spring Semester (House is in session in Tallahassee-intern is still in Miramar, FL)
May perform extensive background research on a bill in working it through the committee
Performs research to gather and assemble information for drafting of bills, speeches, or special reports.
Performs other related duties as required.
RequirementsIntern should be in college or recent attendee who needs work experience.
The intern should be able to work at least 10 hours per week.
