Paradise Valley United Methodist Church is a congregation of approximately 1,500 members in the heart of beautiful Paradise Valley, AZ (Phoenix). We are an inclusive denomination that endeavors to become a community in which all persons, regardless of race, ethnic origin, economic condition, gender, age or disabilities can participate in every level of our connectional life and ministry. Led by laity and clergy, we work together to take Jesus Christ's message of love and hope into our community. As our part-time graphic design intern, you would use your creative skills to design posters, brochures, flyers and other publication materials, as well as post communications online to disseminate our message and communicate to our consituency. The graphic designer works closely with the communications director at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church, as well as with a Communications and Marketing Ministry Team of lay people. This is an unpaid internship of approximately 15-20 hours per week.

Responsibilities

- Assists in the design and development of layouts for internal and external publications, including our worship bulletins, monthly newsletter, e-blasts, posters, ads, and other marketing materials, using appealing graphics that are well organized and cohesive
- Responsible for incorporating current design trends into unique layouts to produce up-to-date publications and online visuals
- Ability to exercise good judgment when interpreting instructions and to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions
- Utilize strong written skills and bring effective visual ideas from concept through to completion
- Work with the Communications Director and the Marketing & Communications Ministry Team to develop and implement our brand as well as assist with how that is communicated through design

Requirements

- Working towards a BA or certificate from a Fine Arts program/Graphic Design school
- Experience with Adobe InDesign, and proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Publisher
- Must be a team player and flourish in a Christian-based environment
- Deadline-oriented, detail-oriented and organized
- Open to constructive criticism and feedback
- Active and knowledgeable about social media, especially Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest
- Experience with and interest in video, podcasts, livestreaming, and photo sharing a plus
- Experience with Constant Contact and email marketing a plus
- Knowledge of Google Analytics to measure effectiveness of email and social media marketing a plus
- Ability to manage and write for a Blog, especially on WordPress.com a plus
