We publish phati’tude Literary Magazine (www.phatitude.org), an award-winning publication dedicated to publishing diverse works by multicultural writers, which is available for sale on Amazon.com (http://amzn.to/phatitude-sales) and other online outlets. We also publish books under our new imprint, 2Leaf Press (www.2leafpress.org). We are looking for Layout & Graphic Designers to work on phati'tude Literary Magazine and 2Leaf Press publishing projects.
This is a tremendous opportunity for an energetic, organized, self-motivated individual who wants real-world experience in a publishing environment. You feel comfortable using software and work well in an unsupervised, virtual environment. You are a powerhouse who can prepare electronic book files for print that delivers high-resolution print-quality PDF pages using InDesign to publish through Createspace and Lightning Source; and create Kindle books using SIGIL (XHTML) templates. You are an innovative, multi-tasking digital designer who can handle design challenges and create award-winning books. You are a creative and strategic thinker able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities§ Execute a broad range of designs suitable for 2Leaf Press and phati’tude Literary Magazine using InDesign.
§ Knowledge of style sheets, exporting documents to hi-res PDFs format for print production helpful
§ Knowledge of HTML coding to design ebooks in SIGIL for Kindle publication
§ Ability to create original graphic works in graphic software, including PhotoShop, for inclusion in InDesign
Requirements§ Majoring in Graphics Arts or have equivalent experience
§ Some experience in graphic arts/production/print and/or electronic publishing.
§ Some knowledge in basic HTML
§ Some knowledge in typography and typesetting
§ Acute attention to detail; ability to plan and organize projects
§ Must have the ability to work under tight deadlines with the flexibility to work on several deliverables concurrently
§ Image and graphic creation, manipulation and preparation
§ Proficient user of all MS Office and Adobe publishing and web tools
§ Work as a team player and participate in effective communication with colleagues (verbal and written)
§ Demonstrated ability to meet very short deadlines and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment, excellent eye for detail
§ Proficient with the English language
§ Proficient in proofreading and editing/proofreading mark-up
§ A passion for clean and elegant design built in a flexible grid layout using flexible images and media queries
§ A portfolio or sample work that clearly demonstrates some of these requirements

Our interns are not invisible nor do they remain in the background, rather, we give you real world experience. In the past, editorial interns are listed in the magazine’s masthead as editors, and book editors and translators are given bona fide credits to our projects. At the end of the internship, the Executive Director provides letters of recommendation for interns’ potential employment opportunities. Most of our interns continue to work with us, donating additional time on other projects.
