Tierra del Sol Foundation
9919 Sunland Blvd.
DescriptionInternship Overview: The Tierra del Sol Foundation is committed to providing an environment that is safe and healthy for its clients, staff and guests. Creating that environment takes a dedicated effort, through a variety of programs, policies, careful observations, attention to detail, and a lot of common sense. This is an opportunity to work with the Human Resources manager to build and strengthen our safety programs. Last year we earned the Cal/OSHA “Golden Gate Certificate” from Cal/OSHA Consultation Services. However, we realize there is still much more work to be done. The intern will be a valuable part of this effort. This requires a minimum 150-hour commitment and carries no offer or guarantee of employment with the organization. The position is based at our beautiful 7-acre campus in Sunland, California, located in the north east corner of the San Fernando Valley.
Foundation Overview: Tierra’s mission is to “work continuously to increase opportunities for people with disabilities to participate, contribute, and succeed as productive and valued citizens of our community. In addition, we will communicate, educate and advocate to increase our community’s understanding and appreciation for the capabilities of the people we serve.” Our vision is that, “a strong and vibrant community is one in which all of its members contribute their strengths and assets to the common good. Tierra’s role in our community is to empower people with disabilities to fulfill their potential and desire to become productive citizens who are accepted and valued for the contributions they make to the economic, civic, and cultural vitality of our community. We are actively working toward the day when people with any type of disability are fully accepted in our community – as neighbors, co-workers, and contributors to our society.”
ResponsibilitiesThe Health and Safety intern will assist with a number of projects including, but not limited to:
•Enhancing our Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
•Help implement the new OSHA GHS (Global Harmonization System)
•Assisting with emergency drills; fire, earthquake and unknown intruder.
•Promote various safety incentive programs.
•Communicate information on Health and Safety to our staff.
•Engage in other opportunities as they arise.
Compensation: This internship is unpaid and compensated with course credit from a college or university. This internship does not include medical benefits. While working with us, the intern will have access to our employee entertainment discount program, monthly safety snack incentives, special employee events, eligible for credit union membership, and will be provided a supportive learning environment.
