DescriptionThe mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Founded by FDR in 1938, the March of Dimes funds community programs, advocacy efforts, research, education, and family support services.
The Program Services Intern is responsible for assisting the State Director of Program Services with the community grant review process, planning and preparation for statewide events, preparation for Federal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) task force meetings, updating the MA Chapter website with current Program Services activities, and other duties associated with the Director’s involvement on statewide maternal and child health committees. College/University credit is available. All internships are located at the Westboro, MA office.
ResponsibilitiesMassachusetts Perinatal Quality Collaborative (MPQC)
•Provide administrative support and create a newsletter, highlighting regional best practices and information about the annual fall summit
•Coordinate with respective organizations to prepare for upcoming steering committee calls and fall meeting
Nhyira Ba (Blessed Baby) Work Group
•Archive resources & references for use by the community
•Research information on Hispanic women in the City of Worcester and develop ideas for prenatal care improvement
•Attend Worcester Healthy Baby Collaborative meetings
•Design health education specific to the target population & explore ways to make outreach
•Complete Electronic Program Information Center training
•Assist and evaluate current programs funded by the March of Dimes
•Complete inventory of program materials & order materials as required
•Complete training in researching and writing grants
•Conduct a comprehensive grant search to identify appropriate funding opportunities
•Work with the Director of Program Services to write grant applications
MA Chapter Website Content
•Create and collect content on current Program Services activities
•Create a resource page for Providers and Consumers and get approval by resource sites
•Work with the Marketing and Communications Department to get content posted on the website
Maternal and Child Health Committee Meetings
•Assist the Director of Program Services with preparation for monthly meetings
•Attend meetings as needed and document March of Dimes action steps
