DescriptionWe are a large surgical neuro-ophthalmology practice with one physician, two offices, and 70+ employees. We are looking for an intern to assist with a number of tasks including: assisting Dr. McHenry in his every day tasks, patient documentation, patient relations, testing coordination, surgery scheduling, patient testing, and scribing. This paid internship calls for the applicant to be flexible and willing to learn many different aspects of our clinic.
Dr. McHenry is principally looking for an individual with a premedical background who will either be in the process of applying to medical school or who will be applying to medical school in the near future. This position is designed for a student taking a gap year before medical school who may be looking for an experience of extensive patient contact. There are also possible research projects to work closely with the physician in addition to employment.
Responsibilities− Ensuring accuracy of chart notes and verbatim transcription of encounters
− Ensuring confidentiality and ease of transition from patient to patient
− Coordinating with assigned technicians and medical records personnel to assist the physician in maintaining scheduled appointments
− Listening thoroughly and attentively throughout the encounter
− Ensuring use of appropriate medical terminology in charting/scribing
− Ensuring quality of chart note and coding
− Interacting with patients during their visit to ensure timely and courteous office visits.
− Work personally with the physician in order to ensure the highest clinic efficiency.
− Manage different tasks under the direction of Dr. McHenry
Requirements− Experience in using and understanding medical terminology preferred
− Patient interface experience in clinical setting
− Ability to carry out multiple tasks throughout the day
− Computer experience with EMR systems preferred
− Knowledge of Medicaid and other insurance protocols preferred
− Hours: Full time 40/week (Paid) may start into a part-time role then move to full time
