DescriptionHealthcare and Health Policy Internship in Ghana, West AfricaThe Healthcare and Health Policy Internship in Ghana provides a unique opportunity for recent graduates with an interest in global health to work with a reputable organizations focused on improving the lives of poor and vulnerable populations in Ghana through research, capacity building, service delivery, education and prevention programs, advocacy and policy analysis. Selected applicants will intern under the supervision of the experienced staff providing substantive and administrative support for ongoing programs in the area of reproductive and maternal health, malaria, TB, HIV AIDS, and Childhood Cancer. Interns will be primarily based in Accra, but may be required to travel to other regions in Ghana for assignments as necessary
Students are placement with organizations such as MSH Ghana, Catholic Relief Services, PATH, FHI 360, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Ghana Health Services.
Interns work alongside staff providing substantive and administrative support ongoing programs. The intern’s specific assignments will depend on the current needs of the organization, as well as the intern’s strengths and interest.
Generally, interns assist in gathering information, compiling and organizing findings, writing reports, and conducting site visits. Occasionally, interns may attend conferences, meetings and other events addressing public policy, and engage government officials, donor organizations and community members.
Interns may also be involved in the following activities as necessary:
- Conduct factual and field research on a range of health and policy issues
- Compile and summarize findings
- Draft reports
- Draft and contribute to publications that are relevant to current health policy debates
- Assist in aspects of educational outreach and program mobilization
- Assist with field based training programs
- Draft policy statements
Who is eligible to apply?
Recent graduates from various academic disciplines with an interest in global health and public policy are encouraged to apply. This internship is NOT limited to students with healthcare backgrounds. Internship applicants should have research, fact gathering, writing, analytic and computer skills.
This is an unpaid internship. Students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Students may be eligible for credit and funding through their college or university.
Internship Start Date: Start dates are flexible. Interns must commit a minimum of 7 weeks.
Location: The internship will primarily take place in Accra, Ghana, but students may travel to other regions as required.
