The new Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island is the Low Country beach resort that blends nature with an authentic island experience to deliver southern hospitality to guests of all ages. We are equally proud of our strong commitment to professionalism, integrity, fair treatment, respect, and teamwork. We pride ourselves on being Hilton Head’s #1 Employer of Choice!
Sonesta Resort, Hilton Head Island, offers a number of work opportunities for students who are enrolled in hospitality, recreation, retail, culinary, and related degree programs. As these programs do not constitute management training, our recruitment efforts target students who have a minimum of industry related work experience, or who are looking to broaden their experiential backgrounds and supplementing their academic studies via a hands-on work experience in a resort environment. Students who participate in these programs help us meet our on- going staffing needs. In exchange, they are assessed for future job placement at the resort or within Sonesta International Hotels Corporation collection of properties.
ResponsibilitiesSupplemental learning activities are designed to enhance the hands-on work experience. Specifically, interns are given the opportunity to attend one management staff meeting each month. Resort executives and management staff facilitate training seminars which are made available for the interns educational experience. Interns are also paid to shadow a Manager on Duty one time during the course of their internship. In addition to any normally scheduled hours, interns are given the opportunity to cross-train in other positions and in other areas of their interest based on business demands.
Company-leased housing is available to students upon request. Housing may be limited and is available on a “first come, first served” basis. Apartments are furnished and the bi-weekly rent per intern is $190. Rent includes power, water, internet, and local telephone service. An advance housing deposit of $200 is required to secure a spot. Deposits may be partially refundable based on the condition of the apartment when moving out.
Interns are paid an hourly wage of $9.50 and are non-exempt. Depending upon business demands, interns will average between 30 and 40 hours per week. During peak business periods, scheduled overtime is to be expected. Overtime is paid at one and one-half times the hourly rate ($14.25) for all hours worked over forty in a work week. Hours during non-peak season may decrease below 30 hours a week.
