DescriptionThe unpaid internship will be an learning position especially helpful to a student who wants to work in the hospitality and tourism industry.
The positioin is within the Dept of State, Div. of Tourism, located in Trenton, NJ. Intern would be required to work 20-25 hours per week.
The internship integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills in a professional setting.
This internship under the guidance of an experience tour and travel executive gives the student the opportunity to gain valuable insight and make connections in the group and FIT travel trade, hotel, restaurant, DMO, welcome center, and visitor services arenas.
ResponsibilitiesSupport the travel trade and welcome center initiatives within the Division of Travel & Tourism.
Assist the tourism representative in tracking and following up on travel trade leads.
Update and maintain lists of DOS at group friendly hotels.
Identify and develop list of group friendly restaurants used by tour operators for group travel, under the supervision of the tourism representative.
Assist in maintaining a comprehensive list of all brochures approved by the division and distributing to New Jersey visitor information centers the approved list.
Compile weekly welcome center reports and summarize and consolidate visitor counts, coach counts, information requested and distributed economic impact and human interest information to be shared among all welcome center staff.
RequirementsMust be currently enrolled and attending an accredited hospitality and tourism college or university.
Highly motivated, energetic students who have the potential to become future tourism and hospitality employees.
Excellent public relations, communications skills in tourism, hospitality, meeting & event planning field (preferred but not required).
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, responsible, dependable, and a team player.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
