Description

Fairview Hospice provides physical, emotional and spiritual comfort to patients at the end of life. Services are given to patients and caregivers wherever they live throughout the Twin Cities metro area. The Volunteer Department offers enhanced support to these patients and their caregivers through a robust team of nearly 200 volunteers. The HR/VC intern supports the volunteer department by recruiting, interviewing, placing and evaluating volunteers. This position will involve working from various sites and requires the intern to have a car.

Responsibilities

1. Assist with recruitment of volunteers through community outreach, social media, and other online sources
2. Interview potential volunteer candidates
3. Evaluate volunteer performance through on site co-visits with FHCH patients and volunteers as well as phone calls to FHCH patients and caregivers
4. Administrative and database support
5. Generate statistical reports tracking volunteer activity
6. Provide back-up coverage for Volunteer Specialists on vacation including placement of volunteers and data entry of requests
7. Perform other duties as necessary

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with people of diverse background and ages
2. Proficient with computers
3. Self-motivated, dependable and responsible
4. Able to work independently in a changing environment
5. Comfortable with death and the dying process and not actively grieving a loss
6. Must be at least 18 years of age
7. Able to transport self to patient homes
8. Student pursuing a degree in volunteer management, human resources, non-profit management, community relations, communication or related field preferred

REQUIREMENTS:
1. Completion of application, interview, background check, health screening, TB test, and volunteer orientation
2. Records accurate, objective, timely documentation of volunteer activities
3. Completes mandatory required learning annually
4. Attends volunteer support meetings and education as needed
