Full-time and co-op/intern position (may become regular full time at the end of the internship) A engineering research company in Northern Virginia is looking for a hands-on senior/ graduate student from Mechanical, Electrical or related Engineering major for an exciting mechanotronic project of national interests. Required Skills: Advanced skill level in hands-on mechanical and electrical engineering. Excellent hands-on skills in instrumentation and electrical assembly are required to perform this task. Knowledge of instrumentation and electronics for sensors, transducers, actuators will be extremely important. Basic skills in mechanical and electrical design required to prepare and interpret drawings. Experience/ basic knowledge in engineering FEA software tools such as COMSOL, Ansys, FEMLAB, LabVIEW. The candidate should be willing and able to learn one or more of these software tools. Preferred: Knowledge of nondestructive tests, semiconductor manufacturing process, composites, and acoustics. Duration for internship: 3-12 months starting Spring 2013 Semester. Compensation: Competitive salary and stipend (for interns), training, and other benefits. The Center for Aerosol and Nanomaterials Engineering at RTI International is offering a Nanobiotechnology Research Internship for undergraduate and graduate students for Summer 2013. The use of metal oxide nanomaterials in industrial, household, and medicinal products (e.g. cosmetics, paints, and implantable devices) is increasingly widespread and contact with these materials is not only unavoidable, but exposure is often intentional. The intern will have an integral role in research efforts to further understand and predict the effects of metal oxide nanomaterials and how these man-made materials interact with biological processes. Description: This position will revolve around Automated Retail and Self Service Kiosks. The Prototype / Product Developer will be responsible for the design, development and cost estimation of new products. He or she will manage Prototype Development projects from definition stages through production release. The project scope would generally be of an intermediate and advanced nature. The Prototype Developer will interface with clients for design reviews and product development. The Prototype Developer will also work with our Development POC and Project Director on new projects in regards to costs, time lines, and customer requests. These are full-time contracting projects paid and compensated upon project completion and funded. Upon completion of project work, we can provide Proof of Experience Letter outlining projects performed and/or Letter of Recommendation. Projects will start immediately upon hiring (or on a mutually agreed upon date).

Primary responsibilities will include conducting lab testing of all aspects of module performance, including print quality. Conducts feasibility studies and tests new and modified designs. May work with support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication. Includes test setup, sample generation and sample measurements. Prepares data and results, communicates data to engineering staff and management.

A student pursuing a mechanical engineering degree is required, sophomore or junior year student is preferred. Student should be a detail oriented, self starter. Should have ability to read 2D mechanical drawings, and to design, setup and execute simple one or two variable experiments.
