Magic Kingdom ® Park,
Epcot ®,
Disneys Hollywood Studios ®, and
Disneys Animal Kingdom ® Theme Park. In addition, more than 20 themed resort hotels, two water parks, and the Downtown Disney® Area, a daytime and nighttime entertainment complex, are part of the Walt Disney World Resort.
Department Overview: This internship will provide the student with practical, hands-on experience used in the day-to-day care of aquatic animals (non-marine mammals) exhibited in a public setting, including large, small, and quarantine systems.
Responsibilities- Prepare daily diets for all aquarium fish, sea turtles, and invertebrates.
- Large systems: Feed and train a variety of teleosts, elasmobranchs, and sea turtles (~2,000 individuals, 65 species) in the 5.7 million gallon aquarium, utilizing scuba diving. Learn large animal handling techniques and assist in procedures.
- Small systems: Assist with maintenance of life support systems and animal care for a series of smaller fish, coral, and invertebrate exhibits
- Quarantine systems: Learn to work with quarantine systems, assisting with chemical and medical treatments of newly arrived fish
- Animal Training: Learn and utilize the process of animal training according to Behavior Husbandry Department Guidelines.
- Perform and analyze water chemistries to maintain optimum aquarium system health.
- Collect and record data on feeding, necropsies, water chemistries, and animal training.
- Maintain cleanliness of all areas according to USDA standards.
- Learn aspects of marine conservation and share conservation message with guests.
Basic Qualifications You must meet the basic qualification in order to apply for the internship:
- Minimum grade point average of 3.0
- Junior, senior or recent college graduate
- Biology, Marine Biology, Marine Education, Zoology or related major
- SCUBA certification is required at the time of application.
Applicants must currently have a SCUBA certification card when applying for the internship. We cannot accept applicants that are currently in SCUBA class or are planning on completing it after application submission.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Minimum of 3 months experience (full time, internship, classroom, or volunteer) in aquatic animal care (primarily with fish and invertebrates), including diet preparation, feeding, and cleaning
- Minimum of 3 months experience (full time, internship, classroom, or volunteer) working with saltwater aquarium systems, including tank maintenance, plumbing, and water quality control

Internship Eligibility:- Must be enrolled in a U. S. college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Not have already completed two consecutive (spring/fall) College or Professional Internship Programs
- Must possess unrestricted work authorization
- Must provide full work availability
- Must provide own transportation to/from work
- Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)
Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are June 2013 through January 2014. Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship.
Housing: A limited amount of company-sponsored housing is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
