Since its opening in 1971, the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, FL has grown to feature four theme parks the Magic Kingdom ® Park, Epcot ®, Disneys Hollywood Studios ®, and Disneys Animal Kingdom ® Theme Park. In addition, more than 20 themed resort hotels, two water parks, and the Downtown Disney® Area, a daytime and nighttime entertainment complex, are part of the Walt Disney World Resort.

Department Overview:
This internship will provide the student with practical, hands-on experience used in the day-to-day care of aquatic animals (non-marine mammals) exhibited in a public setting, including large, small, and quarantine systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepare daily diets for all aquarium fish, sea turtles, and invertebrates.
  
• Large systems: Feed and train a variety of teleosts, elasmobranchs, and sea turtles (~2,000 individuals, 65 species) in the 5.7 million gallon aquarium, utilizing scuba diving. Learn large animal handling techniques and assist in procedures.
  
• Small systems: Assist with maintenance of life support systems and animal care for a series of smaller fish, coral, and invertebrate exhibits
  
• Quarantine systems: Learn to work with quarantine systems, assisting with chemical and medical treatments of newly arrived fish
  
• Animal Training: Learn and utilize the process of animal training according to Behavior Husbandry Department Guidelines.
  
• Perform and analyze water chemistries to maintain optimum aquarium system health.
  
• Collect and record data on feeding, necropsies, water chemistries, and animal training.
  
• Maintain cleanliness of all areas according to USDA standards.
  
• Learn aspects of marine conservation and share conservation message with guests.

Basic Qualifications You must meet the basic qualification in order to apply for the internship:

• Minimum grade point average of 3.0
  
• Junior, senior or recent college graduate
  
• Biology, Marine Biology, Marine Education, Zoology or related major
  
• SCUBA certification is required at the time of application.
  Applicants must currently have a SCUBA certification card when applying for the internship. We cannot accept applicants that are currently in SCUBA class or are planning on completing it after application submission.
  
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
  
• Minimum of 3 months experience (full time, internship, classroom, or volunteer) in aquatic animal care (primarily with fish and invertebrates), including diet preparation, feeding, and cleaning
  
• Minimum of 3 months experience (full time, internship, classroom, or volunteer) working with saltwater aquarium systems, including tank maintenance, plumbing, and water quality control

Internship Eligibility:

• Must be enrolled in a U. S. college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  
• Must be at least 18 years of age
  
• Not have already completed two consecutive (spring/fall) College or Professional Internship Programs
  
• Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  
• Must provide full work availability
  
• Must provide own transportation to/from work
  
• Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)

Program Length:
The approximate dates of this internship are June 2013 through January 2014. Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship.

A limited amount of company-sponsored housing is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Marine Environmental Research Institute (MERI), a nonprofit organization based in Blue Hill, Maine, is recruiting to fill a Coastal Monitoring Internship position for the field season 2013. This is a full-time position requiring an 8 month commitment from May through December. Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge (chinco.fws.gov) Wildlife Biology Program Internship: Breeding Shorebird Monitoring Summer Internship Application Period: December 14, 2012 February 8, 2013 Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuges Shorebird Management Internship is a field experience unlike any other! There are three unique barrier islands for which interns can submit their application materials; Assateague, Assawoman, and Cedar Islands. Includes Metompkin Island and a Chincoteague Bay American oystercatcher breeding survey route only accessible by boat without onsite facilities. Must be comfortable around water, working on a boat, and working for several hours at a time in remote locations. Preferably, the incumbent will have experience navigating coastal waterways. CEDAR ISLAND: 3 Interns for 18 weeks; April 15, 2012 Aug 16, 2012 Cedar Island is a remote island which requires daily travel of 40 minutes by car and 15-30 minutes by boat. The applicant must be comfortable around water, working on a boat, working for several hours at a time in a remote location. Must be capable or walking for up to 7 miles per day carrying necessary field equipment up to 25lbs. Preferably, the incumbent will have experience navigating coastal waterways. Daily access to this field site is highly dependent upon weather and tide; therefore, the daily and weekly work schedule will fluctuate. ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND Save Our Seabirds Inc. located on City Island in Sarasota, FL is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of injured birds. Our 130,000 square foot facility is home to approximately 250 birds consisting of over 30 species both native and exotic. On average, Save Our Seabirds, Inc. cares for 800 to 1000 birds each year admitting anywhere between 3 and 10 birds a day. With volunteer help, our non-profit organization successfully rehabilitates and releases up to 65% of the birds in our care. We also offer education regarding the adverse impacts of humankind on wild birds, provide Oiled Wildlife Response and Training, and continually develop and maintain a unique avian Surrogate Parenting Program. INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY Our internship program seeks enthusiastic college students who are passionate in both the medical and ecological aspects of wild bird studies. Interns will gain interactive experience in the identification, handling and treatment of injured birds. Treatment of various species includes engaging tasks such as tube feeding, administration of intravenous medication, and physical therapy. Interns will also have the exciting opportunity to work with birds that require fitting and replacement of their special prosthetic limbs designed by Kevin Carroll, creator of Winter's famous prosthetic tail. In addition to hospital duties, an in depth study of anatomy, physiology, behavior, and dietary needs of different species will be covered extensively throughout the internship. (These concepts play a vital role in many diagnoses and are an important underlying element in any veterinary practice.) Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in our rescue response team and avian surrogate parenting program. This innovative biological control utilizes a native insect, the milfoil weevil, to manage Eurasian watermilfoil, an invasive aquatic plant.
