Xerox Research Center India is offering internship opportunities to outstanding students from top universities worldwide. Internships will be held in Bangalore, India, and are 3-6 months in duration to be scheduled either spring summer or fall. Applicants should have a strong background in one or more of algorithm design, optimization, machine learning, stochastic processes, game theory, social computing, human computer interaction, artificial intelligence or information security. Preference given to students with an interest in applying their expertise to solving theoretical or practical problems arising from topics in Human Computation such as Crowdsourcing. The goal of an internship is to participate in cutting edge research and in support of original and creative scientific projects. In the process it is expected that they will create valuable intellectual property and/or publish in top tier conferences and journals. Applicants should be enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Applied Statistics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. Interns will receive a compensation package which includes round-trip airfare and lodging near the office location. The Xerox Research Centre India is a young and growing research organization. Inaugurated in March 2010, it is the newest of five world renowned research labs in the United States, Canada, and Europe that together form the Xerox Innovation Group. Researchers at our centre work on cutting-edge technologies including cloud computing, human computation and business analytics while leveraging Xeroxs established expertise in imaging, document management and ethnography to address locally relevant and globally challenging problems. Full-time and co-op/intern position (may become regular full time at the end of the internship) A engineering research company in Northern Virginia is looking for a hands-on senior/ graduate student from Mechanical, Electrical or related Engineering major for an exciting mechanotronic project of national interests. Required Skills: Advanced skill level in hands-on mechanical and electrical engineering. Excellent hands-on skills in instrumentation and electrical assembly are required to perform this task. Knowledge of instrumentation and electronics for sensors, transducers, actuators will be extremely important. Basic skills in mechanical and electrical design required to prepare and interpret drawings. Experience/ basic knowledge in engineering FEA software tools such as COMSOL, Ansys, FEMLAB, LabVIEW. The candidate should be willing and able to learn one or more of these software tools. Preferred: Knowledge of nondestructive tests, semiconductor manufacturing process, composites, and acoustics. Duration for internship: 3-12 months starting Spring 2013 Semester. Compensation: Competitive salary and stipend (for interns), training, and other benefits. International Rivers is a non-profit research and advocacy organization headquartered in Berkeley, California, with staff and consultants currently working in Brazil, China, India, South Africa and Thailand. International Rivers supports communities around the world in protecting their rivers and rights. We work to halt destructive dams and encourage better methods of meeting needs for water, energy and protection from floods. International Rivers' Policy Program works to strengthen the social and environmental policies of dam builders and financiers, and to build the capacity of civil society and dam-affected communities to defend their rights. We are seeking a part-time (16-20 hours/week) intern for 3 months during Spring and Summer 2013 (with possibility of extension) to assist with the creation of a major report on the current state of the world's rivers. The report will include an in-depth research component on indicators of river basin health, and will analyze our experiences and lessons with specific dam projects, developers, and cross-cutting issues over the past decade. The Policy Program Intern will play a critical role in the project team by supporting the research, production, and outreach components of this report.
