Description

The Data Tamer is an IT consultant which creates and maintains custom database applications for businesses and organizations to meet their unique information management needs. Company website: www.thedatatamer.com

This is an unpaid, part-time, internship program which will focus on providing an education opportunity. The intern will work under the tutelage of a mentor at The Data Tamer's office, as well as by remote conferencing.

Duration = 16 weeks, 6 hours per week. Available year-round.

The internship will be structured into 3 phases:

- System Design
- Database Design
- Database Programming

The database systems are scaled for a wide variety of small-to-medium sized businesses and individual departments within larger businesses or organizations.

You will have the opportunity to work with the following languages and technologies:

- VBA and VBScript
- PHP
- Javascript and JSON
- XML-RPC
- Microsoft Access
- Microsoft SQL Server
- MySQL
- Windows and Linux platforms

There will be a heavy emphasis on programming. You should expect to spend most of your time programming with VBA in Microsoft Access, and PHP, under the guidance of a mentor. This internship is best suited for anyone with a strong interest in database design, programming, and web technologies.



Responsibilities

In accordance with the Department of Labor's guidelines for unpaid internships you will not be expected to generate any work of material benefit to The Data Tamer. You should expect a valuable training experience in a real-world software development environment. You should gain new knowledge and skills from the experience which will make you marketable in the IT industry, or which can be used for college credit.

Requirements

- Course work or experience with software design.
- Course work or experience with one or more programming languages.
- Course work or experience creating relational databases.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Access tables, queries, and forms.

ALSO, DO NOT APPLY IF YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO SCHEDULE A PERSONAL INTERVIEW IN TOWSON, MARYLAND. THE INTERVIEW AND THE INTERNSHIP REQUIRE THAT YOU HAVE YOUR OWN TRANSPORTATION AND THAT YOU WILL BE IN THE REGION.
