The Information Technology (IT) Intern II is responsible for providing tier 1 Helpdesk and Desktop Support services at the Sacramento site and remotely to all Foundation staff as well as network support services as directed. The position will assist with setting up new users (desktop and laptops), installing and troubleshooting Windows operating systems, and working with Active Directory. The position will also provide assistance with technical analysis and feasibility studies of hardware and off the shelf applications.


Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:
•Provides tier 1 support to staff on all computer related software and hardware issues
•Assists in the maintenance, backup of network systems and related diagrams and systems information
•Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and supports the operation of personal computers, software and peripheral equipment for all Foundation staff
•Upgrades existing hardware and software
•Tracks and completes preventative maintenance and tests
•Assists with the development and maintenance of databases
•Assists with the maintenance of historical records by consistent documentation of processes
•Generates needed reports as requested
•Contributes to team effort by completing other assignments and serving on project teams, as assigned; and accomplishing related results as needed

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Level of Supervision:
Receives general direction as to goals and achievement of those goals. Evaluated based on the successful achievement of goals. Subject only to broad communications associated with the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Working Conditions and Travel
•Well-lighted, heated and air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation
•Minimal overnight travel by land and air

Physical Requirements
•Ability to work at a computer workstation for periods up to 4 hours at a time and for up to 8 hours per day for up to five consecutive days
•Ability to speak on the telephone for a total of up to 3 hours per day
•Ability to sit for up to 3 hours without breaks at meetings
•Perform repetitive movements, such as typing, filing, and the use of commonly used office machines and supplies
•Ability to frequent lifting of materials (20 lbs. or less), occasional lifting of items 20 lbs.+


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Experience with desktop support
•Experience with networking, security, and implementation industry standards
•Knowledge and experience in Microsoft operating systems
•Knowledge and experience in Mac operating systems
•Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office
•Knowledge and experience in Adobe Suite of products
•Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory architecture
•Basic understanding of network principles and theory
•Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer services skills required
•Strong documentation and organizational skills
•Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel
•Ability to assist with the installation, configuration and maintenance desktop and server systems, network infrastructure and any related hardware or software
•Ability to learn new technologies quickly and thoroughly
•Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a high-paced environment
•Ability to apply advanced problem solving capabilities to troubleshoot issues in an efficient manner
•Strong attention to detail, documentation, and tracking abilities required
•Work effectively, independently and follow through on assignments

Education and Experience
•Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
•Must have earned at least 60 or more units/credits (junior or senior standing) and have at least 1 term (semester or quarter) left before graduating
•Must have declared a degree program and majoring in either Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related major at an accredited college or university
•Must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.0
•During the academic year, must be enrolled in classes and maintain a minimum of 6 semester units or 9 quarter units
