DescriptionVery Best of Virginia (VBVA) is currently seeking passionate, independent and creative writers with a deep knowledge of Virginia, its people, places and activities to contribute to our "Uncommon Coverage of the Commonwealth."
VBVA isn't interested in breaking news or reporting the "Top Story" of the day. Our goal is to offer readers unique and quality coverage via Virginia-focused feature reports, interviews with people making an impact in their community, business profiles/reviews, upcoming events, must-see destinations and more.
WILL I BE ASKED TO WRITE A SPECIFIC STORY OR COVER A SPECIFIC BEAT? No. We're more interested in allowing you the opportunity to write about what interests you. As long as your topic relates to Virginia, fits the VBVA brand and entertains/educates our audience of Virginia readers, the sky is the limit.
HOW OFTEN WILL I BE EXPECTED TO WRITE A STORY? There is no quota. Our top priority is quality.
WHERE WILL I GET STORY IDEAS? You may be inspired by a report from your local newspaper or television station. Is a YouTube video from Virginia going viral -- interview the person who created it. Is there a story from The Huffington Post with a Virginia angle that you could expand? Heck, type "Virginia" into a Google search and see what's being written about our fair state. Again, the sky is the limit.
WHAT WILL I GAIN FROM THIS EXPERIENCE? Your work will be published and include a brief bio, photo and contact information. Not to mention, you will gain invaluable advice and guidance from an award-winning journalist with more than a decade of experience in the United States and China.
Take a look at our website (www.verybestofvirginia.com) and get a feel for our brand/coverage. If you're interested in joining the VBVA team, please address application to VBVA Managing Editor, Jeremy Crider.
