Description

Canyon News is a weekly adjudicated newspaper of general circulation covering all the hills of Los Angeles, including Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Griffith Park, Hollywood Hills, Los Feliz, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Topanga Canyon, West Hollywood and Westwood.

The newspaper first started in the writing room that was once owned by Orson Welles in the Hollywood Hills back in 2003. Therefore, the newspaper emulates a 1933 Daily News with old-fashioned values, but with modern principles. The mission of the paper is to provide our readers with the truth. All news is completely unbiased. Canyon News will never endorse a political candidate. The internship program is the only way to become a permanent staff member. You learn how to do it our way as well as work as a team while striving to be your best.

Responsibilities

Interns will learn various areas of the company. We treat everyone equally. You will not be the door man or the Starbucks runner or the mail person. You will be like everyone else in the company, just without the responsibility of being "perfect." You will have a chance to learn the departments you desire. Writers will write. Working independently on your assignments is expected. We don't hand-hold.

Canyon News has two sister papers and we are looking to continue expansion. Interns are allowed to work from home. We also encourage people from all over the country to take part in this opportunity.

The following departments have openings at the moment for internships:
Writing (interns will work on NEWS stories for cities throughout our coverage area)
Editorial (Interns will participate in editing content for the print and online publication)
Advertising (Interns are allowed the opportunity to learn how to sell advertising space for the print or online publication)
Marketing (Interns will learn the importance of marketing the newspaper utilizing social media upon many other tools)
Photography (Interns will learn the importance of quality photos for all articles in the print layout, well as for the website)
Administration (Interns will learn the importance of proper filing, organizing, communication with clients, answering of phones, etc
Legal Filing (Interns will learn the importance of legal filings in addition to have the opportunity work at the LAX, Van Nuys or Lancaster courthouses to obtain new clients for the paper)
