A digital news editor is responsible for the content and images used on Diasporium News Website. The editor plans, copy, proof read, fact check, edit and post the news on the site. Applicant will be fully trained on the system, tools and technology to be used. Training is mainly on the job. These may cover style requirements, research methods, copyright and privacy laws, and content management systems.


The Digital News Editor will edit stories sent in by reporters from the field, post stories on the website, edit the pictures for the stories, edit/produce the virtual reporter audio to be posted with select stories, pick interesting news materials from select affiliate sites to post and post already published news story on the site to social media. The Digital News Editor will also select which commentaries, opinions and analysis to publish and ensure all content meet standards and guidelines. He or she will proof read and fact check content before publication.


Preferably an English, journalism or mass communications student with high interest in reporting about Africa and World/International News. Anyone interested in journalism such as students studying political science, international relations, development studies, graphics and design, public health and other humanities can also apply. Anyone with passion to for broadcast media may apply as well or if you have the skills listed below, you may apply.


Required - Editing, Organization & prioritization skills, Creative, Able To Multi-task, Excellent communication skills, AP style writing, Initiative, Thorough Research, Summarizing Information
