SOCIAL the Lifestyle Magazine is a luxury lifestyle brand that covers fashion, beauty, travel, technology, dining, leisure, celebrities and culture. Launched in 2012, SOCIAL is both an online publication (SociaLifestyleMag.com) and in print. (New York, Los Angeles, Columbus, Dubai)
Since SOCIAL has a fairly small editorial staff, our interns the opportunity to become an integral member of our team. An ideal intern is independent, ambitious and in-the-know when it comes to luxury lifestyle trends.
Our best interns have been detail-oriented and diligent….and tackles every assignment with a positive, can-do attitude. Qualified candidates should have writing, reporting and fact-checking experience, and most importantly, be full of ideas.
Communication skills are a must along with the ability to successfully complete strict deadlines.
Interns will work closely with SOCIAL’s senior staff, exploring both the fast-paced, energetic print and digital magazine world.
The intern will perform a number of tasks including pitching story ideas, performing research on a variety of topics, transcribing interviews and contributing to SociaLifestyleMag.com (Fashion, Dining, Entertainment, Leisure and Travel).
Responsibilities-Research story topics
-Attend/assist with photo shoots
-Interview actors, experts and authors for stories
-Cover red carpet events, premiere parties and openings
-Attend various fashion, beauty, culinary and networking events
-Miscellaneous tasks for Editor in Chief
-Pitch/write stories for SociaLifestyleMag.com
-Assist with photo research for web stories
-Compile round-ups and galleries
-Fact-check print stories
Requirements- Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, English, business communications, or communication arts.
- Basic journalism knowledge, including style, tone and format of articles, and best practices for interviewing and fact-checking. Familiarity with AP style.
- A good comfort level with making phone calls, speaking on the phone, and following up with sources for fact-checks and interviews
- Strong organizational and communication skills with keen attention to detail and problem solving skills
- Basic knowledge of MS Office applications, especially Word.
-The ability to independently manage your time and tasks: working on multiple assignments at a time, prioritizing your tasks, and juggling different types of assignments at once and know when ask questions when you need help.
- Experience in writing blog posts with basic understanding of SEO and how to apply it
