DescriptionCanyon News is a weekly publication headquartered in Beverly Hills, CA and caters to all the hills of Los Angeles. San Francisco News covers the heart of San Francisco.
At the moment, we are accepting applications for our Winter/Spring Home Internship Program for the following departments:
Interns brought on board will receive school credit, references and bylines and a stipend of up to $1,000 depending on the department and length of time at the completion of your internship. All writers will be published both in print and online in our adjudicated newspaper. If you are accepted into the program, you have the opportunity to intern from the comfort of your home or from our Beverly Hills office. Internship programs are 15, 26 or 52 weeks.
ResponsibilitiesInterns will learn various areas of the company. We treat everyone equally. You will not be the door man or the Starbucks runner or the mail person. You will be like everyone else in the company, just without the responsibility of being "perfect." You will have a chance to learn the departments you desire. Writers will write. Working independently on your assignments is expected. We don't hand-hold.
You must be available for a minimum of 8 hours a week. 98% of our staff has been hired from our internship program. Please be advised this is not a job, this is an internship for those interested in learning the field of journalism while building your portfolio and resume.
Candidates will support our Declaration of Principles. As a team we promise:
-To provide a community newspaper that tells all the news honestly without any political agenda, slant or spin.
-To allow commentary writers the freedom to express their opinions and views without interruption, censorship, or persuasion.
-To provide members of the community (rich or poor) with the truth and a place to voice their concerns.
-To abstain from printing anything demeaning, calumniatory or potentially harmful to any living being.
-To maintain the highest level of journalistic integrity.
