DescriptionWe are a trendy, 'non-stuffy' new media company, based out of Philadelphia PA, looking for aspiring journalists for our journalism/blogging internship with our burgeoning viral news website.
You would be TELECOMMUTING (you would work from your own location), which means you can still have/maintain a job in your local area. While many interns feel that telecommuting will still give them an opportunity to 'live their lives,' if telecommuting is problematic for you, then this may not be the right fit for you.
We do guarantee that will our many years of experience, you will feel like you are a part of something big, and you will obtain great experience.
ResponsibilitiesPlease note: You will learn to work the WordPress platform (If you are not versed in it already). These duties will vary in accordance to your skill set and comfort level (these are just some of the possible responsibilities):
*Online researching and writing both original and curated news
*Ability/desire to jump on trends quickly
*Using creativity to write quizzes/polls
*Possible celebrity interviews (as we look to add this to this platform, which we have had on our past platforms) - via email or phone (in-person possible)
*Gathering funny/viral content
*Music news (all genres - we are a diverse team who covers it all)
*Some social media interaction (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram)
Possible events in your local area (if you are in LA, New York , Atlanta or Chicago, then those markets have more opportunities)
*Some minimal public relations duties
We are fair in all of our practices, and always encourage people to think outside of the box and bring their own creativity
RequirementsWho We Are Looking For:
Our ideal candidate would be a journalism major, and would be well-versed in a variety of genres and topics. You must also be great at online researching. The candidate must be an extremely good writer; outgoing, reliable and not ‘star struck.’ You 'may' also conduct phone interviews with actors, actresses, musicians, so you must have experience in this area, or willing to learn.
Preferably, a sophomore or higher in an accredited college. While we do believe in giving people their first chance, we would have to get a feel for the person if they are not at least a sophomore in college.
2.5 or better grade-point average.
Must be able to work very well independently
Must be outgoing, ambitious, self-starter, innovative and willing to learn
If you are applying for a PR, editorial, social media or journalism internship – you must be great at writing and communicating. Being a ‘people person’ is very viable in any of our positions
What You Will Gain From This Internship:
Journalism and professional blogging experience
Basics of WordPress platform (if you are not familiar)
A sense of social media, sales/marketing, and publicity and how these facets work (if applicable)
You will build relationships that will help you down the line
You’ll learn how to market, how to be deadline-conscience and how to be effective communicators, both written and verbally, and the ability to work well independently
College credits with letter of recommendation upon successful completion
*16-20 Hours per week
(Some weeks may be a solid 20 hours, but 16 hours would be the least)
