The Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA) is a unique and progressive Federal Agency dedicated to increase public safety, prevent crime, reduce recidivism and support the fair administration of justice in collaboration with the community.

CSOSA’s Office of General Counsel is seeking an unpaid first or second year legal intern in either a full-time or part-time volunteer capacity.

CSOSA may accept the voluntary services of students with permission of the academic institution at which the student is enrolled. CSOSA will provide work experience opportunities related to academic programs that will provide exploration of career options as well as the development of personal and professional skills.

CSOSA will seek credit hours on behalf of qualified students. Transportation financial benefits are provided if utilizing the metro rail or bus systems.


The legal internship program is designed to provide legal interns with the opportunity to learn about the general operations of the General Counsel’s office in a federal law enforcement agency.

CSOSA’s Office of General Counsel is seeking an unpaid first or second year legal intern in either a full-time or part-time capacity.

Under the supervision of the Office of General Counsel’s team of attorneys, the law student will have an opportunity to learn and be exposed to all phases of litigation practice, primarily in the areas of criminal law and criminal procedure, privacy issues, employment law, federal torts and ethics.

Responsibilities will include collaborating with staff attorneys on case reviews; conducting legal research; assisting in drafting legal memoranda, pleadings and other litigation documents; accompanying staff attorneys to hearings; assisting in depositions and client meetings and other tasks of a similar nature or level and interpretation, and application of Federal rules and regulations, agency policy and case law.

Students must be enrolled at least half-time, 50% in an accredited College/University or other academic institution. Students must be in good standing and approved by their academic institution.

Applicants must have excellent written and oral communications skills and must be enrolled in an ABA accredited law school. Applicants should be self-motivated, hard-working, and have the proven ability to work with a wide range of people.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Westlaw required. Arrangements can be made for work/study or course credit.
