DescriptionThe Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) is seeking part-time interns with an interest in emergency management to fill a variety of positions. Interns can expect to work directly with the Division or our emergency management partners throughout the state of Florida. Interns will be given project assignments related to emergency management which will provide them with substantial hands on experience.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management plans and prepares for all types of disaster events. This includes but is not limited to hurricanes, floods, terrorist acts, incidents involving hazardous materials and nuclear plants. We coordinate disaster response and recovery, and also take steps to mitigate against their impact. The Division also makes a strong effort to collect and disseminate emergency information to educate the public about preparedness.
ResponsibilitiesInterns may be expected to perform a variety of duties incuding those listed below.
-Coordinate and participate in exercise drills and training events
-Assist with public outreach and education efforts
-Review or develop emergency plans and reports
-Perform grant management activities and manage financial reconciliations
-Conduct research projects to enhance emergency management activities
-Support database and technical information systems
-Develop, coordinate, and participate in planning meetings and conferences
Requirements-Solid understanding of emergency management
(This may be demonstrated by the completion of FEMA IS courses-100, 200, 700, and 800)
-Emergency management, homeland security, public administration, urban planning or related fields
-Enrollment in an accredited college or university (prefer junior, senior, or graduate student)
-Minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA
-Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
-Availability for an in-person interview
-A local preference is given for all positions
