DescriptionExcellent opportunity to work with well-funded, software start-up. Developed cutting edge quote/estimate app for various industries (construction trades, distribution sales, independent sales, service companies, etc.).
You will work directly for the company, but also side-by-side with a well-known industry consultant--in photo with blue shirt (former VP Marketing at GE, Sr. VP Marketing at Motorola, Launched Netscape, Helped form Red Storm with Tom Clancy, taught as guest lecturer at top Universities, consulted with over 270 companies (including 3M, Microsoft, Dell, Adobe, Intel, Sony, Apple, Disney, etc.)--enthusiastic and fun (but works hard) who will train, coach, mentor and help you with everything.
This is not a normal internship. You will do real marketing and make a real contribution. The #1 requirement--passion and excitement to learn and do real marketing. Minimal experience required--will train and mentor.
The marketing intern will help to implement all content marketing activities (social media management, online interest group/forum participation, publishing blog posts, executing editorial calendar), execute simple website updates, assist with PR, ads, copywriting, and other promotional activities.
Past interns from this same consultant now have their own PR and Ad agencies, work for Bain & Associates, are over marketing at Red Hat, have launched #1 best-selling products (like Netscape and AOL), work at Cisco, Symantec, Apple, Motorola, Dell, etc. This is one of the most comprehensive, fast paced but exciting chances to learn and do real marketing and it helped launch entire careers.
You will work side by side with company consultant to setup and execute everything (and will receive samples, templates, examples, help, coaching and review for everything). Some of the work is boring (like with every job), but MOST is not--very roll up your sleeves and get it done type of work that drives the brand preference and spikes sales.
Website & SEO
• Learn and execute the elements for an effective website, plus the most modern 58 steps to online SEO.
• Publish blogs, case studies, and white papers to website
• Make minor updates to content on website as needed
• Manage content marketing calendar including blog posts, social media posts, and other online marketing campaigns
• Strategically execute video marketing campaigns
• Facilitate third-party relationships in content collaboration and distribution
• Execute online ombudsman activities and manage ombudsman calendar
• Facilitate and manage partner recruitment research and campaigns
• Coordinate with Partner Program Manager to guide direction of partner research
• Manage third-party relationship with partner research assistant
Other marketing items may be discovered along the way that will assist the overall marketing department strategy and objectives.
RequirementsThis is a marketing role, not a technical role--but must be very comfortable with technology, have a passion for it, and must know MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Must have a knack for writing as this role is focused on communication and involves a lot of writing and correspondence with prospects and partners! Must be comfortable with updating websites – WordPress experience a bonus, Joomla experience a major bonus! Must be comfortable with social media marketing tools – experience with Hootsuite, Buffer, or other social media tools is a bonus.
The company is located in Rockford, MI (near Grand Rapids) but there may be opportunities for location-independence/remote work. You'll be independent, but will also be networked with several other interns (across the country) that are doing similar work with the consultant for other companies--so you can also collaborate on similar projects.
A high degree of organization and self-motivation and marketing PASSION is required. This person must quickly learn the product and the market and contribute. Must be assertive to get what you need to accomplish projects.
Prefer a responsible Junior-Senior in college working on a business degree (marketing, PR, or journalism preferred since this will be applicable experience, or an MBA candidate that wants real experience (but must be very teachable - will learn a LOT of new concepts fast--and then execute).
New graduate considered but MUST, MUST, MUST commit to a minimum of 3 months of work (don't want to train and have you leave too soon). About 60 - 70% of interns in these roles ended up working for the companies they helped--so, although not guaranteed, this has the potential of becoming a full-time position out of college.
20 hours per week during school year, opportunity for full-time hours during breaks and summer.
