DescriptionDiscovery Science Center (DSC), a 59,000-square-foot learning facility designed to spark children’s natural curiosity and imagination, has been a vital educational resource in Southern California since 1998. Since the beginning, we have been dedicated to educating young minds, assisting teachers and increasing public understanding and appreciation of science, math and technology through interactive exhibits and programs.
The goal of the Marketing and Communications Internship at DSC is to engage the intern in all aspects of non-profit, museum and entertainment PR and marketing including social media, blog writing, media planning and interactions, branding/communications, event planning, online marketing, marketing research and more.
DSC is a growing company and interns have the opportunity to understand PR and marketing strategies as a whole and participate in their execution from start to finish.
ResponsibilitiesUpdate online event listings and calendars
Maintain e-mail statistics spreadsheet
Research for various projects and initiatives
Contribute to online blog with topics and posts
Assist in the planning on Member and press events along with other Marketing-related events
Creative writing – blogs, traveling exhibit descriptions, event collateral, plus more...
Reporting and analytics
Creation of a master calendar of external events and significant dates
RequirementsStudents pursuing degrees in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations are encouraged to apply. All majors are welcome to apply.
Applicant must be self-motivated, responsible, dependable, and dedicated to the mission and values of Discovery Science Center.
Applicant must be comfortable working in an office environment and interacting with business professionals.
Strong writing skills with close attention to detail.
Basic knowledge of marketing and public relations principles.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Familiarity with social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter is preferred.
