Description826CHI’s storefront The Boring Store is looking for a semester-long intern to support the Boring Store Manager and the Community Outreach Director. The ideal marketing intern has a vested interest in applying his/her skills and experience towards devising strategies for the promotion of both the storefront and non-profit components of 826CHI.
826CHI is a nonprofit writing and tutoring center dedicated to helping youth, ages six to 18, improve their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Our programs are structured around the belief that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success.
Responsibilities•Work with the Boring Store Manager and Outreach Director to devise and implement marketing strategies that promote events and attract visitors
•Manage social media presence for The Boring Store
•Support the production of press releases and the promotion of the 826CHI brand
•Provide general support in the store including sales and merchandising
•Assist with special events both at 826CHI and in the Chicago community
Requirements•Outgoing individual who has experience working with diverse cultures
•Strong written and verbal communication skills
•Passion for the betterment of youth
•Strong verbal and written communication skills
•Responsible self-starter and strong independent worker. Creative strategist capable of leading in the development of marketing projects
•Task- and detailed-oriented
•Must be familiar with basic office programs (Mac Platform)
•Student of, or graduate, in Marketing or comparable experience
•Enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, “secret agent” tropes a real plus
•Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign a plus
