Job Title: Business Services Intern
Location: LaGuardia Community College – 29-10 Thomson Avenue, Suite 911 – Long Island City, NY
Dates of Positions: ASAP, (Fall, Spring & Summer semesters)
Time Commitment: 3 months minimum – Ongoing

Organization Overview:
LaGuardia Community College has partnered with the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses initiative to help small businesses in the greater New York metropolitan area to grow and create jobs. The initiative will enable small business owners to access a dynamic combination of coursework, business advising, and support services that will help them grow their firms. The ultimate goal of the program is for the participating business owners to increase their revenues and create new jobs in the New York metropolitan area.

Summary of Position:
The 10,000 Small Businesses office is on-campus at LaGuardia Community College and is a fast-paced work environment requiring daily contact with a variety of audiences and activities. Candidates should be able to work well with others and independently in an office with high energy and high expectations. The intern will assist in the organization and maintenance of outreach and recruitment within the NYC metropolitan area small business community for the 10,000 Small Business program.

Duties:
• Work directly with Business Services Director to develop and implement marketing strategies to reach out to small business owners in the tri-state
• Create & maintain a database of program leads and calendar for e-alerts and e-blast campaigns
• Draft correspondence and follow-up with interested and potential program participants.
• Assist with clerical, filing and data entry.
• Market research on businesses currently in the program
• Attend business expos and networking events together with staff to develop networking skills
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Solid written & verbal communication skills.
• Strong interest in marketing, sales and business development.
• A self-starter with a strong desire to learn.
• Well developed organization, professional communication and time management skills.
• Strong computer experience – MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint, internet and social media outlets.
• Office support with record keeping, data entry and event planning logistics.
