Skills for Chicagoland’s Future (Skills) is a public-private partnership driven to meet the talent demands of businesses, and to be a catalyst for systemic change and innovation. The force behind this drive is centered on our mission to get the unemployed and underemployed back to work. By focusing on the hiring demand of employers, Skills has created a paradigm shift in the general supply-driven approach to workforce development. The impact of this demand-driven approach can be seen through both the employers’ skilled and diverse workforce, and the economic mobility provided to the job seekers who are no longer unemployed/underemployed. Launched in 2012, Skills’ foundation is built on its strong employer partner relationships, dedicated Board of Directors, and funding support from both the City of Chicago and private donors. To date, Skills has directly impacted the lives of 2,500+ job seekers who were returned to work, and the bottom-line for over 50 employer partners.

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications and the Marketing Manager, the Marketing and Communications Intern will be responsible for assisting with research, social media, website content management, grassroots outreach, event management, and various other marketing projects. This internship is unpaid, but does offer a travel stipend. This role can be full or part-time based on availability. The internship length can also vary based on availability, and can be extended upon the candidate’s performance. Course credit will be applied to this internship, if applicable at the applicant’s college or university.
The Marketing and Communications Intern will be responsible for various tactical duties, such as:
◾Digital Marketing – Monitor social media activity, develop direct email communications, manage digital ads, and maintain the organization’s website. Make recommendations for improvement of content, engagement strategy, and design.
◾Research & Metrics – Collect marketing research information on trends and monitor current marketing activities. Research content strategies for reaching various key audiences and markets. Maintain both website, applicant tracking system and marketing spend dashboards.
◾Grassroots Outreach – Work with internal and external teams to reach job seeker groups, and various community organizations. Create college and university career center contact sheet, and calendar of events.
◾Events Management – Assist in planning and executing special events as needed.
◾Communication & Content Creation – Develop copy, edit, proof and publish content for various key stakeholder audiences, including creative copy for SEO and Websites.
◾Other projects as needed.
As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values and mission of the organization. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following experience, skills, and personal attributes:
1.Undergraduate or graduate student.
2.Excellent oral, written, communication and analytical skills.
3.Strong attention to detail and ability to perform in fast-paced environment.
4.Organized with the ability to multi-task and prioritize projects based on deadlines and requirements.
5.An interest in nonprofits, fundraising, marketing, and/or communications.
6.Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
7.Experience in website design and/or content management and social media execution required.
