Seeking Intern for Summer 2016. Will be 75% remote working, but must be in the NYC area to be considered. Primary will assist to write & submit press releases, create a spreadsheet of regional media contacts, and follow-up. Additionally, to solicit and track auction and raffle donations from various sources. Plus, be an extra pair of hands for the events we have on our calendar this summer. (Some weekends required.)

About NKI: NephCure Kidney International is the only organization committed exclusively to support research seeking the cause of the potentially debilitating kidney disease Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and the diseases that cause Nephrotic Syndrome, improve treatment, and find a cure.

POSITION SUMMARY
NephCure Kidney International (NKI) seeks an intern to support a volunteer led, regional marketing and development program. This internship provides the opportunity to focus on areas of interest and learn best practices in the fields of non-profit marketing, volunteer/patient engagement, nonprofit administration, and event planning.

The Intern works closely and collaboratively with the Regional Director and Regional Manager to help assist with the activities pertaining to NephCure's biggest fundraiser of the year "Countdown to a Cure" fundraiser in NYC November 10th. Must be able to effectively work with volunteers, patient families and department heads to increase constituent involvement. The qualified intern must be focused, strategic, energetic, and possess a dynamic communication style to inspire and motivate volunteers. S/he must be able to work well both independently and collaboratively; have a high level of visual, verbal and written communication knowledge and skills, and support fellow team members in fulfilling the foundation’s overall goals.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Event Marketing, Management and Administration
- Prepare marketing collateral for regional events.
- Responsible for developing the regional social media plan & marketing calendar and its implementation.
- Responsible for drafting press releases and email blasts to constituents.
- Work with staff and volunteers in Walks, Community Fundraisers, Golf Outings, Galas, and other fundraising efforts.

Requirements

Background in Marketing, Communication, non-profit management or other related discipline.

Strong communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Suite Office
Proficient in Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop desirable
Photography and/or video editing skills a plus.
Organized, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments.
Creative and Flexible
Familiarity with social networking sites
Interest in nonprofit management and community development.
Ability to work as a leader and as part of a team, and willingness to work a flexible schedule with minimum supervision is also required. Approximately 50% - 75% of the work can be done remotely.
Occasional participation in evening and weekend events is expected.
Valid Driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Sense of humor - Must know one great joke! (Please include in your cover letter/email.)
