The Public Affairs & Marketing Department at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center is seeking candidates for its undergraduate internship program. To be eligible, students must be pursuing a degree in public relations, marketing, journalism, communications, public health or a related field, and have an interest in gaining interdisciplinary experience in a health care setting. We are looking to have an intern for the fall, winter, spring and summer semesters. We can work with your school to provide college credit for your internship experience.
The Public Affairs & Marketing Department manages the following key areas:
-Public Affairs: Manage the hospital’s strategic communications and media strategy, pitching stories and handling media inquiries. Maintaining our social media presence.
-Marketing: Develop and execute strategic marketing plans to build consumer awareness and drive business development goals. Work closely with various departments to assess services and opportunities, analyze competitive environment and develop strategic marketing initiatives. Work with advertising agency and other vendors to implement integrated marketing tactics.
-Internal Communications: Manage internal communications to inform associates about events, classes, hospital initiatives and other messaging via print and digital communication channels.
-Community Relations: Support the Advocate Health Care system in reducing health disparities in the communities we serve through comprehensive partnerships with community
organizations, including the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. Assist with events for sponsorship partners.
-Government Relations: Maintain relationships with local elected officials and educate them on the impact of health care legislation, as well as educate associates and physicians about major legislative issues facing the health care system and hospital.
ResponsibilitiesAdvocate BroMenn's Public Affairs & Marketing Internship Program allows students to gain experience in various aspects of marketing, public relations and internal communications. Opportunities include:
-Improving writing and editorial skills by assisting on a variety of internal and external communications initiatives
-Participating in marketing planning and campaign executions, including advertising, direct mail initiatives and development of brochures and other informational materials
-Enhancing technical and digital communications skills through experience with social media, video development, web content development and search engine optimization
-Developing media relations and pitching skills
-Gaining experience in stakeholder relations through community and government outreach
-Increasing legislative knowledge about health care delivery through government relations initiatives
-Enhancing business acumen by building relationships with administrative managers, directors, executives, physicians and other clinical leaders
-Gaining exposure to other health care areas of interest, including clinical, finance, business development and legal
Requirements-College student pursuing a degree in public relations, marketing, journalism, communications, English, writing, public health or related field
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Self-motivated and effective task manager
-High level of innovation and ability to think creatively
-Ability to work independently and think critically
-Organized and detail-oriented
-Previous internship experience preferred
-Knowledge of public relations strategy and planning, marketing, business communications, media relations and/or government and community relations preferred
-Set weekly hours required
