Each summer BNSF Railway brings in a group of interns to experience the day-to-day operations of a Class I railroad. The objective of our Summer Internship Program is find students that will join us after graduation as part of our Management Trainee Program.

Salary Range: $3,500 - $4,000 per month
ResponsibilitiesDUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Mechanical interns will work on special projects designed to assist the Mechanical Department in planning and executing locomotive and railcar repair and maintenance. Projects may require use of advanced problem solving tools, and standardized work. Interns will also test new technology and identify and implement best practices. All interns will work to acquire knowledge about the mechanical organization structure and the interrelationship between other departments such as Engineering, Transportation and Marketing.
***This role does not involve design of railcars, locomotives or other equipment.

Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above
Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or graduate degree program at an accredited university
Authorization to work in the US without Company sponsorship
Relocation to an assigned location within the BNSF Network for the summer
Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
Pursuit of a degree in General, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Civil Engineering OR a similar technical program
Graduation date prior to June 2015
Experience working in an engineering, manufacturing, factory or technical environment
Proven leadership experience and excellent oral and written communication skills
SUMMER RELOCATION WILL BE REQUIRED. A candidate can be relocated to any location across the BNSF system (see System Map on website www.bnsf.com). Ideal candidate should be very flexible regarding location.
LODGING STIPEND: Relocation expenses and a lodging stipend provided, if eligible.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Indoors and outdoors on a regular basis. Environment requires personal protective equipment, hard hat, safety glass, and gloves.
HOURS OF WORK - Hours are irregular with a minimum of 40 hours per week. As BNSF is a 24 X 7 work environment, schedule could involve nights, weekends, and holidays.
