The Family Equality Council, which connects, supports and represents the one million lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender parents who are raising two million children, is recruiting a DC- based intern to assist its communications office. Candidates should be skilled writers, familiar with LGBT and/or progressive issues and steeped in new media tactics. Position requires 20 hours of work.


The Communications/New Media Intern is an integral member of Communications team. This unpaid internship involves assistance with external communications and marketing efforts as well as research of and outreach to traditional mass media and social media outlets. Success in this position requires highly developed organizational skills, the ability to problem solve independently, a team-oriented mindset, and excellent interpersonal skills.


· Working towards or completed an Undergraduate or Graduate degree in a related field · Strong written and verbal communication skills · Familiarity with LGBT and/or progressive issues · Skilled in Social Media practices
· Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint · Ability to work independently and proactively
