DescriptionemPower magazine, an online news site that focuses on social issues (health, education, environmental, political and economical) facing people of African descent in American and globally, is seeking three editorial interns: Editorial and Multimedia.
This is a telecommuting/virtual internship, which will require between 6-12 hours per week, including bi-weekly conference calls and monthly meetings.
We are looking for Fall and Spring interns.
The Fall Internship Begins September 3, 2013
The Spring Internship Begins January 6, 2014
ResponsibilitiesEditorial: Writing and reporting for the web; and researching social Issues relevant to the magazine for in depth, investigative stories.
Multimedia: Producing video, audio and photo stories for the web; and researching social Issues relevant to the magazine for in depth, video packages.

RequirementsAll candidates should possess (or currently pursuing at the sophomore, junior or senior level) a degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Film or English and have an interest in socially-conscious topics/issues. Candidates must be committed, responsible and highly organized. Positions demand attention to detail and the ability to work independently. Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Editorial: Have flawless grammar and spelling skills, be detail and deadline-oriented. Experience working for a college newspaper or previous internship is desired.
Multimedia: Experience shooting film, using video editing software, and producing multimedia packages are strongly desired.
Editorial candidates do not have to live in the DC area. However, Multimedia candidates must be living in the DC area during the time of the internship.
