Description

The Office for Global Engagement (formerly International Services) provides services to international students, faculty, and scholars and assists Slippery Rock University students and faculty with international study and travel. The Public Relations & Social Media Intern will assist in increasing communication between the office and students. International Services is experiencing a growing need to reach out to students in new ways concerning the programs offered. The intern will be active in raising awareness for international student and study abroad via social media and personal interaction with students. Additionally, the intern will enhance students’ international experience by developing and further integrating social media, blogs, and surveys into the services. The intern will also film and edit short videos as promotion for international students’ recruitment and encourage students to benefit from the opportunities of study abroad programs.

This position will provide the intern with a variety of valuable experiences. The intern will be proficient in utilizing social media as a marketing and communication tool. The intern will have increased competency in program development and recruitment. The position will also provide opportunities for the intern learn the scope of functions of international office management. Projects completed during this internship will be worthy of inclusion in the intern’s professional portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Create short videos featuring international students as well as students who have completed study abroad programs
• Perform maintenance and updates on the Office for Global Engagement social media sites
o Facebook and Twitter
• Create a Slippery Rock University study abroad blog website
• Conduct Study Abroad Photo and Blog contests
o Utilize social media for students to vote on favorites
• Create surveys to be distributed to international and study abroad students pertaining to interest in new programs and adjustments to current programs
• Assist with informational booths on services provided by the office
• Develop communications and promotional programs to SRU and prospective international students
o Integrate social media popular in other countries (ex: QQ, Ren Ren, and Weibo) as needed

Requirements

Desired Qualifications:

• Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, powerpoint, and publisher programs
o Experience designing posters, brochures, information sheets, newsletters, etc
• Familiar with social media sources and how to use them
• Proficient at filming and editing videos
• Previous international travel and/or experience with international students
• Strong organization skills and leadership abilities
o Experience planning and preparing for events
• Previous experience designing and/or editing a website(s)
• Excellent communication skills, ability to prioritize tasks, self-directed, efficient and responsible
