Child Life Patient Media Programs at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) offers a Spring, Summer and Fall internship session to undergraduate and graduate students. This internship is intended to introduce individuals to a live-broadcast closed-circuit television network and high-profile media event management, while interacting with children and their families in a healthcare setting. Through supervised instruction, students will work to provide CHOP’s hospital-wide CCTV network, Galaxy 51, with programming that is educational, entertaining, therapeutic and interactive with opportunities for patient participation either in-studio or through bedside call-in.

Responsibilities

Students will work primarily out of Seacrest Studios, CHOP’s own multimedia broadcasting studio, and will be provided with the opportunity to have hands-on work with many facets of media production, including: live show-hosting, coordinating special live-broadcast events, assisting with guest interviews, producing show content, running cameras and audio boards, technical directing, editing, and designing graphics and animations - all while truly making a difference in children’s lives. Child Life aims to provide a sense of normalcy, community, and distraction for all children, some of whom have considerably long hospital stays and critical illnesses. All applicants should consider personal responses to learning in this type of environment which can sometimes be overwhelming for individuals.
